Decking with uplights and Tuscan balustrade. Softwood decking is an excelllent way of extending your living space. Designing a deck is always based around the overall theme of the garden and in this case my clients had been heavily influenced by business trips to Tuscany, therefore the design reflected an Italian concept. The change of balustrade in this image shows how attention to detail changes the theme, this time more USA i think.
Planting around the perimeter of decking can soften the straight lines that often occur. Also the change in direction and levels will create more interest.
A small pergola, arbour or parasol will also add a third dimension.
Deck lighting. Whether it's downlights, uplights or L.E.D's, lighting is the icing on the cake for any deck or patio area. At nightfall they encourage you to sit out and relax.
Curved and circled decking. Geometric shapes play a large part in landscaping. The circle here shows off the design and makes the rest of the project look contemporary.
Although not my favourite project, this seaside garden was enjoyable because the design was agreed between myself and the client before they went on holiday and they returned after completion. It's always nice to see the look on someones face when it's a total transformation but I fought till the end to not use this background colour.
